I have long been fascinated by the our steel jungle here in Western PA. Crossing over and under towering bridges, walkways, and stoops is a daily occurrence; often in view of decaying industrial architecture. This combined rust belt infrastructural / industrial aesthetic melted into a thriving city with rolling hills is so magnificently compelling that, as a painter I cannot think of a more interesting subject to tackle. While considering this project, I contemplated on the history and stories of the past and present surrounding these structures. And how we all can gain from reflecting on both this aesthetic and the history of these places can guide us into the future.
